The problem: Your air filter needs to be changed. This is the most important filter in your car. Consequences: A clogged or restricted air filter may hinder airflow and draw contaminants into the engine. With today's finely tuned fuel injected systems, this not only leads to poor fuel economy but causes premature wear to the fuel injectors and moving components in the engine. Solution: Most air filters can be easily replaced, so we encourage customers not to risk it.
The problem: Your fuel filter needs to be changed. Solution:Unlike air filters, fuel filters are unable to be visually examined to determine if they require replacement, that's why it's important to replace a fuel filter on a regular basis, to ensure it's operating correctly and doesn't become blocked. Fuel filters are often mounted in hard to reach locations, including inside the fuel tank. This is a sample of fuel drained on to white paper from the inlet side of old fuel filter, just look at the mess. Has your fuel filter been changed recently?
The problem: Your spark plugs need to be changed. Consequences:A spark plug ignites the air / fuel mixture in the combustion chamber by creating an electrical spark. The spark plug has positive and negative electrodes. The positive electrode receives an electrical charge generated at the ignition coil, which jumps across an air gap to the negative electrode. The spark plug ignites the air fuel mixture to create an explosion that will push down on the piston, which turns a crank. If the air gap on the spark plug becomes too wide (usually caused by wear of the positive electrode) the electrical charge may not be able to jump the gap. When this happens there is no spark. When there is no spark, there is no explosion, and no downward pressure on the piston. This is called a misfire. A misfire will decrease performance and fuel economy, and if left unaddressed, may cause damage to the converter. Solution: To replace it, it is unscrewed from the head. On some cars this is very easy, on others, access to the plug is obstructed.
The mileage indicates that your timing belt needs to be replaced.
SERIOUS. Timing belt failure can cause major internal engine damage. Fixing it before it is a problem is a lot cheaper than fixing it once it has failed. Also, a timing belt failure will leave you stranded. With timing belts, it's important to be proactive.
We will replace your timing belt. Timing belt replacement is a complex and technical procedure.
One or more of your tyres need to be changed due to being worn or damaged.
SERIOUS and LIFE THREATENING. Tyres represent the only contact between your car and the road. Your safety in regards to acceleration, braking, steering and cornering are currently compromised because the small area of road contact (your tyres) are not in good condition.
We will replace your tyre/s. Considering they carry the entire weight of your car, and keep you alive, they represent excellent value.
By uneven decreased wear you will need to replace particular tyres sooner. Also, unbalanced wheels will increase wear of your shock absorbers, struts, and other expensive steering and suspension components.
We will examine your tyres and will rotate and balance them so that they maximise tread and suspension life.
SERIOUS. When shock absorbers begin to show excessive wear, they lose their ability to effectively stop the tyre from bouncing during different road conditions. If your tyre is bouncing it won't offer the same level of braking grip and handling capability as one that is maintaining constant contact with the road.

Changing oil regularly is an essential part of a vehicle's maintenance schedule.
The fluid in the power steering reservoir has changed to a dark colour, which is an important indication that the power steering fluid needs to be flushed.
SERIOUS. The change in colouring is caused by fine metal particles suspended in the oil. These particles have already been pumped throughout the system, effectively becoming a grinding paste on any of the moving parts within the system. The abrasive action of these contaminants will damage seals, score shafts and bores, and foul the valve assemblies. Without attention, this can lead to a break down in the entire power steering, requiring expensive repairs to the power steering rack, box or pump.
Mansfield Motors can flush your power steering system and remove contaminated oil with a powerful cleaner, which suspends and dissolves varnish and gum residue in the power steering system. Then we will replenish it with new high-tech power steering fluid.
SERIOUS and LIFE THREATENING. Worn pedal rubbers can allow wet or dry feet to slip off (or under) the pedals, either creating an emergency situation or being unable to avoid a collision in an emergency.
Your car has a leak, which means vital lubricating fluid is escaping.
SERIOUS. A simple leak can completely ruin your engine, as well as other expensive engine ancillary items. Oil leaks do not go away by themselves, they get worse and create more damage as time goes on. It is very important to fix a leak as soon as it's discovered. To put it off will normally cost you more than fixing the leak itself.
We will find and repair the component that is leaking. The cost will depend on the amount of damage to the components.
Your engine bay (the area that houses your engine and all its components) is unclean.
SERIOUS. Leaks and wearing components are not visible and therefore not fixed. Left unchecked, leaks and wearing components can lead to thousands of dollars damage to your engine.
Mansfield Motors will soak your engine bay with environmentally friendly biodegradable degreaser, and use high pressure to wash down the entire engine bay. We will then blow dry all electrical connectors and spark plug leads as required.
Wear and corrosion inside the wheel cylinders may be reaching a critical point.
SERIOUS & LIFE THREATENING. Excessive wear or hydraulic leakage must be dealt with immediately! If any of these components fail, leak or wear sufficiently, the brakes may fail suddenly and without warning. These components are so important to vehicle safety that any fluid leakage from wheel cylinders or excessive wear renders the vehicle in an un-roadworthy condition.
At Mansfield Motors, during every service we remove the brake drums, to fully inspect the rear brakes. If they require work we will advise you. If required, we will replace the wheel cylinders to restore the brakes to like-new condition.
SERIOUS. Torn CV boots allow grease meant to lubricate the joint to escape, this allows dirt and debris to enter inside the joint which causes premature Cv joint failure. A Worn CV joint usually produces a loud abnormal clacking noise from the wheel area when it's being turned, but by this time it's too late to replace the boot. If left in this condition the joint will catastrophically fail, which will cause complete loss of drive to the wheels.
We will replace your CV boots or drive shafts as required.
One or more of your drive belts need to be replaced.
SERIOUS. Drive belts quite literally keep the many wheels of the engine turning. The failure of an ancillary drive belt will cause engine failure due to overheating, or the loss of power steering assistance during cornering.
We will fit your car with new, quality drive belts.

Good Brakes are absolutely essential for safe driving. This is how they work:
The basic parts of a disc brake system. The pads are the friction material. When the brakes are applied, the pads are the part that makes contact with the disc rotor, creating friction and stopping the car. This friction causes the pad and rotor to wear.
The pads are moved by hydraulic pressure, created in the master cylinder, pushing brake fluid through the brake lines and pushing out a hydraulic piston attached to the pad. In a disc brake system this cylinder is found in the calliper.
Disc Rotor Minimum Thickness: Disc Brake Rotor Minimum Thickness (also known as Scrap Thickness) is the minimum safe working thickness of a rotor at which it must be replaced. Continued operation at or below Minimum Thickness can lead to brake system failure. As the rotor reaches its minimum thickness, braking distance increases, sometimes up to 4 meters! Mansfield Motors accurately measure your cars' disc rotors and advise you on the best course of action.
Disc Thickness Variation (DTV): Is a condition where the disc rotor varies in thickness. After thousands of braking applications disc rotors wear, and usually in an uneven manner. DTV occurs due to uneven wear of the rotor during normal brake operation, and can be easily remedied by the machining of the disc rotors if they are still above minimum safe thickness.
